So to give the opposing army’s something to fight over I decided to build a fairly generic village of about half a dozen buildings which will work over as wide a historical time period as I can get away with.</p><p>I wanted to include a church among the village buildings, and all the buildings will be thatched. In the past I’ve used towelling to create thatched roofing in 15mm scale, so will do the same again.</p><p>The big idea this time is egg boxes! For the life of me I can’t remember where I fist saw this idea. I saw someone using egg box pulp board to create flag stones. An idea which I’ve used in my south European 28mm village. This time I’m going to use the egg box card to clad all the buildings to give the rough appearance of wattle and daube walls once painted and with a bit of dry brushing it should work well.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE1X8ikecoxU9i_eFq9NihINAR_6HujeRDxJoKsZB3ppQwQN_vsPYSXxHZynGwSam4E95mPQ7bbecZD7MzrrARLTR9DJItLXcAsN5OHxey0M1QvxsYoOB1lFBwZ6eefmEvo_AsEapJW2A/s1787/5E1BAFC6-9AF1-4432-83CE-2A37AD5D06D9.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1759" data-original-width="1787" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE1X8ikecoxU9i_eFq9NihINAR_6HujeRDxJoKsZB3ppQwQN_vsPYSXxHZynGwSam4E95mPQ7bbecZD7MzrrARLTR9DJItLXcAsN5OHxey0M1QvxsYoOB1lFBwZ6eefmEvo_AsEapJW2A/s320/5E1BAFC6-9AF1-4432-83CE-2A37AD5D06D9.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl8xgebpfL6RKwSE1FPK6x7za7P1w9-9yUc9-Qmyui36D-fEz5WioByQeaLfRd5LzfiUgUThRFS0dKTqZt8w479bkZxrDgr9Gbfc1kIoMKq_Q_VDSiKWO7cNpVkB_EJzV9CHs6RVWYU_4/s1791/071EF43D-057A-4D3C-9F09-77AD78A7A716.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1755" data-original-width="1791" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl8xgebpfL6RKwSE1FPK6x7za7P1w9-9yUc9-Qmyui36D-fEz5WioByQeaLfRd5LzfiUgUThRFS0dKTqZt8w479bkZxrDgr9Gbfc1kIoMKq_Q_VDSiKWO7cNpVkB_EJzV9CHs6RVWYU_4/s320/071EF43D-057A-4D3C-9F09-77AD78A7A716.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCdB8p4je_9MfKzXyeEHOYFyDbdqe1B1rXIemy9LvPh0oRSV7H8hxBo1t8lCU9cojeARyN8Xnuv1USdBtQga0nzjNyyQVaVY3V9vVxPvLF8BMofnh8CtO9WuKI1PW5q2UqOjEj-da_CGo/s2048/8922F95F-AF7A-47AC-831F-B2EB37307925.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1528" data-original-width="2048" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCdB8p4je_9MfKzXyeEHOYFyDbdqe1B1rXIemy9LvPh0oRSV7H8hxBo1t8lCU9cojeARyN8Xnuv1USdBtQga0nzjNyyQVaVY3V9vVxPvLF8BMofnh8CtO9WuKI1PW5q2UqOjEj-da_CGo/s320/8922F95F-AF7A-47AC-831F-B2EB37307925.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS2HzN0a3HCRL2TE5K3OmiATpx73b7n5oPFz9rZyPgOEQNlTp4gHFCGuu5ntzJ_w2sG4dKGDoNtRgsC-9Wb2B5bwcBK1bV700LuIOBi7MMnfpdUsltXNk4vav3sOO69tdVqBfsX-6kM4I/s1801/A77F4F89-5D95-4A70-84DB-BA81AEB01401.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1746" data-original-width="1801" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS2HzN0a3HCRL2TE5K3OmiATpx73b7n5oPFz9rZyPgOEQNlTp4gHFCGuu5ntzJ_w2sG4dKGDoNtRgsC-9Wb2B5bwcBK1bV700LuIOBi7MMnfpdUsltXNk4vav3sOO69tdVqBfsX-6kM4I/s320/A77F4F89-5D95-4A70-84DB-BA81AEB01401.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">All the woodwork was made using the classic coffee sticks, the buildings are all based on 2mm plywood, as used in dolls house construction. To give a hint of a medieval past for the village. I was lucky and had two cardboard tubes, one of which fitted snuggly within the other, this fact is what sparked the idea of having two versions of the dovecote, one pre artillery attention and one post. The idea being the top of the dovecote is an ideal location for a sniper, and when your bazooka team takes him out it would be great to reflect the damage to the dovecote.</p><p>To start with some images of the dovecote under construction. I used my usual PVA and sand to texture the outer sleeve of the tower and just did the two inner tubes immediately around the top under the roof line. Stone stairs up to the door were created from expanded polystyrene, again covered with PVA and sand after having the stone blocks carved out with a sharp craft knife.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr52pOqDN1QwsNo3rJe9DJTSUeylokbiZelmTD-Kt_dzx1e5kNtAaLVcXY_OtUN_XZ0hz8vEjO3eGSdLSGr4pV9wJNFImuKrhqgoSE_QKOPVdYx3TzJ52uS-7T2HyP3MziUz-g51U8cEk/s2048/95C64FDB-972E-4B6B-855B-E202117C760E.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1618" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr52pOqDN1QwsNo3rJe9DJTSUeylokbiZelmTD-Kt_dzx1e5kNtAaLVcXY_OtUN_XZ0hz8vEjO3eGSdLSGr4pV9wJNFImuKrhqgoSE_QKOPVdYx3TzJ52uS-7T2HyP3MziUz-g51U8cEk/s320/95C64FDB-972E-4B6B-855B-E202117C760E.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO65ROP6-UevHRNsobjuuSi8acA_h9JyyVW3pZ5F7dLaDjHSAeJBbx6EtN2gjH5v5OscHLEVCYD6vLPuP-3aAv7vnXlZNyrffBS_QBMvU0v5Lk0m-UwadNDQbDVxvpmJsxUF14E3fyz1w/s2048/4197DDB6-C307-434E-82DC-682D8F19CB5C.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1944" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO65ROP6-UevHRNsobjuuSi8acA_h9JyyVW3pZ5F7dLaDjHSAeJBbx6EtN2gjH5v5OscHLEVCYD6vLPuP-3aAv7vnXlZNyrffBS_QBMvU0v5Lk0m-UwadNDQbDVxvpmJsxUF14E3fyz1w/s320/4197DDB6-C307-434E-82DC-682D8F19CB5C.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTlEWVuq9Gi81nb18ulHYtLi96a2ZxGqT-RJoPJ4uLuvGYTbeqD-OsdgY7silFb5DVAXnaJFudCCsdG0i84QgN7wV0uf3cWAzmOE0ySudgiLN-q1XtEKhjdCO5arqPa4ePAhw9jRTYKh8/s2048/64117973-44CD-4501-BF46-33031582A5C4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1375" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTlEWVuq9Gi81nb18ulHYtLi96a2ZxGqT-RJoPJ4uLuvGYTbeqD-OsdgY7silFb5DVAXnaJFudCCsdG0i84QgN7wV0uf3cWAzmOE0ySudgiLN-q1XtEKhjdCO5arqPa4ePAhw9jRTYKh8/s320/64117973-44CD-4501-BF46-33031582A5C4.jpeg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Next stage was looking at adding some additional rubbish to the base to show the debris blown down from the roof. My WW2 forces in 10mm stretch from the Blitz in the west through the hypothetical Operation Sea-lion onto Operation Barbarossa against the Soviet Union. Not happy with the colour of the Russian T28 yet, needs to be darker I think? But not to dark, difficult balancing act at this scale. People say make it brighter to pop on the table.</p><p>More baggage and general clutter to go on the vehicles yet, the Marder II’s are the most finished, they were originally bought for my Blitz freeze project way back in December 2009, test terrain was finished by May the following year. Being mid war vehicle’s they may well get a coat of whitewash for the steps.</p><p>Keep checking on the Pendraken forum painting competition thread, you never know they might turn up there.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; So I thought a hunting lodge small summer house would fit the bill. I also added a small walled garden. Lots of the painting from the Franco Prussian war featured estate type walls, and as they make ideal cover for skirmish games it seemed an ideal opportunity to build something similar.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW4P0wNEQvl-yGaPnSPtbfUf70HubItJwQM3X5HDUV-sGOOLdKXkBRV32RICArFpvjuUn6NGr2tXw-bXfutym2xDdlCPByR9-4MmwkuLuQT6xUAh7XX9txXysFkiFINzbTNR_d9vWK_dM/s2048/544B656D-92F1-4742-9F37-489F34033A9F.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW4P0wNEQvl-yGaPnSPtbfUf70HubItJwQM3X5HDUV-sGOOLdKXkBRV32RICArFpvjuUn6NGr2tXw-bXfutym2xDdlCPByR9-4MmwkuLuQT6xUAh7XX9txXysFkiFINzbTNR_d9vWK_dM/s320/544B656D-92F1-4742-9F37-489F34033A9F.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjduFh2DsyeCw_zQjPl4np-nwKMWh6zn6VykuVjmbXaVam_ucVHuBCdOsxtvM3urQCRKK5P-GxyIhJz0acte0vtrrwB2IctZ6SVvAfwHS4KFDx10KlmAevirtDQIh98th1WPudRIKyxGcE/s2048/280F8680-872F-47B5-B351-0E7480EF14B9.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1360" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjduFh2DsyeCw_zQjPl4np-nwKMWh6zn6VykuVjmbXaVam_ucVHuBCdOsxtvM3urQCRKK5P-GxyIhJz0acte0vtrrwB2IctZ6SVvAfwHS4KFDx10KlmAevirtDQIh98th1WPudRIKyxGcE/s320/280F8680-872F-47B5-B351-0E7480EF14B9.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8D8OZ6oOzy0cBxcs7nRw_v4Pzvypn-YfgCm2El1dVz3rh-0NK3h7aOnOfyk8j8nsHLVPE9Hp_hfdzLP0h2Q8000RRqvB9MdYV7jHSoukaDGxCNhCQUnVkrAGDwLAMGTec927okQxF-C0/s2048/42A30886-1258-4BB6-A0F0-A25542AC88E8.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1449" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8D8OZ6oOzy0cBxcs7nRw_v4Pzvypn-YfgCm2El1dVz3rh-0NK3h7aOnOfyk8j8nsHLVPE9Hp_hfdzLP0h2Q8000RRqvB9MdYV7jHSoukaDGxCNhCQUnVkrAGDwLAMGTec927okQxF-C0/s320/42A30886-1258-4BB6-A0F0-A25542AC88E8.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpjrbxtvq6mEmL-wdQbm4xaUe6uulBneeH_hOqydkzp_C-vQq1-33LEeGzHyWieCZxXutgSmp5PoofNENcy_P7qBuuf2GjHtEgV0MKg8fttpKOsZyMKngVjhm3fd2PPehMJfV0SAGrxUI/s2048/FC1492BB-26EF-4631-9381-69ADC316D7DD.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1458" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpjrbxtvq6mEmL-wdQbm4xaUe6uulBneeH_hOqydkzp_C-vQq1-33LEeGzHyWieCZxXutgSmp5PoofNENcy_P7qBuuf2GjHtEgV0MKg8fttpKOsZyMKngVjhm3fd2PPehMJfV0SAGrxUI/s320/FC1492BB-26EF-4631-9381-69ADC316D7DD.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The hunting lodge was built with foam board for the walls rendered with PVA and sharp sand. Roof tiles from scrap cardboard and the paved driveway from egg carton cardboard. The low wall and gateway are made from expanded polystyrene with PVA and sand added to give it texture and make it more robust. The top of the gate posts are finished off with some beads again textured with the ubiquitous PVA and sand for texture. The gates are made from cardboard with metal mesh used to top them off. The same metal mesh is used for the windows. The hedges are made from green pan scrubber. The heraldic crest over the door was a plastic button which I cut down to a square shape to fit over the door. The only outstanding bits to finish this off are the doors, I’m looking to create something imposing for the front door.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgESicbpXAIzXoDCzBupppTd0JCquFS_CbNAE1HAzHr-CjbLGRBjtQ3I30dcdJKpmfXDXz1SuwRnXzdtAns20ISEoygM3ft9bEvEcdazErK0Bde1MzsozKXMNb3HnMUGuAdvEKF2okABos/s2048/D68361EF-6803-4550-BC98-028D93FB7830.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1467" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgESicbpXAIzXoDCzBupppTd0JCquFS_CbNAE1HAzHr-CjbLGRBjtQ3I30dcdJKpmfXDXz1SuwRnXzdtAns20ISEoygM3ft9bEvEcdazErK0Bde1MzsozKXMNb3HnMUGuAdvEKF2okABos/s320/D68361EF-6803-4550-BC98-028D93FB7830.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIy0QmO_vqnvLG68M745T1u-o4qLL_ue3ttkRXeWoZlyE8VH5pYdYAJCmJbNnk7cDjDcAfRt6AML_xHWteOS6oFTilyJW5aNXCGY6OwG-Nc538ZquPbYyYKpwvzYaE-ojm9gqq5Wuo8IY/s2048/1BD44286-0368-4C5A-93C2-2DD043FF7F05.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1935" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIy0QmO_vqnvLG68M745T1u-o4qLL_ue3ttkRXeWoZlyE8VH5pYdYAJCmJbNnk7cDjDcAfRt6AML_xHWteOS6oFTilyJW5aNXCGY6OwG-Nc538ZquPbYyYKpwvzYaE-ojm9gqq5Wuo8IY/s320/1BD44286-0368-4C5A-93C2-2DD043FF7F05.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkb_2ULJU_iztLP-qntkZSA-33JfE6dH9Z70edAQ9ZUgyb6EV3oJhK2gqzO3DopJEeXxohpWUThfgdSoKisNX0422Xmb0CTkwvvhHfreKi1cWrwq-uLGwezuUY0QzhMHpUXhAvCzCyEUY/s2048/C97C45C8-8DC4-4234-A3FA-5D5601F94B48.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1477" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkb_2ULJU_iztLP-qntkZSA-33JfE6dH9Z70edAQ9ZUgyb6EV3oJhK2gqzO3DopJEeXxohpWUThfgdSoKisNX0422Xmb0CTkwvvhHfreKi1cWrwq-uLGwezuUY0QzhMHpUXhAvCzCyEUY/s320/C97C45C8-8DC4-4234-A3FA-5D5601F94B48.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The walled kitchen garden is designed to sit at the back of the hunting lodge or to be a stand alone item. The gate and the wall being the main features I copied from the painting. The church itself is all from my imagination. I was looking to create something with a rustic rural look, nothing to imposing.</p><p>I gave the roof of the church some battle damage and also made lots of strike marks on the walls and around the gate. Nothing that looks to much like WW2 combat damage, so no long lines of impact marks from machine gun fire. Making to terrain believable for earlier conflicts.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZBA_WXbavfbMt2FHMNV3-tZBM0jULAmWg55SPWRH0SSvjvTIimfL4w7TGc9wm4Ow9II-uehixoZAyRkkmxhCihxJPXfVVqTalCR5441s28hAb-EIsEjEV009CnLB0iI1rHgLRHRwvEXY/s2048/5F705F8B-D61B-4482-AACE-4251D0F93DA7.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; The additional sabot bases with the rubble, smashed roof timbers and tiles can be used with the building or as stand alone terrain items. When creating the village I researched online for reference material. Lots of Franco Prussia war paintings were used for inspiration, a couple of images below give a flavour of the type of reference I based the village on.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKCSQVIooX81B7OkvOE-2Mq-7ITs24rci3OXovnf30oOXm0CaxPSV0nCNFeTxMbKYJmKfCT3Dx-wMSjFVM42VX049B6D5mCewOqiox4F3LNNRWSgbwh2xnsYuGsQrDoFunryvEDRHkq5c/s2048/8DCAEFC5-590B-4C90-BD21-E359FDBD4F37.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; I base all my 28mm scale buildings on 2mm thick plywood. As used by dolls house builders, works much better than art board with no danger of warping when glued or painted.</p><p>Around the main house base can be seen two of the sabot bases with sand and small gravel added, the gravel is from a cactus buying phase the daughter went through many moons ago, I got a lifetime supply out of that phase. Also added are some granite chipping’s from the pavement out side our estate. A pile of foam bricks cut up from the removed poly board can be seen in the second photo.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPqs91zBqtssAdR3FFfbYhtUNwqk40vcItJErzEI-0VusT_f7euIy7gWkRV8MO2nl4oEqlXewrGR5MTIvO0jBUYzLBhYfFW-Yd7z1-K729cgQ7AafOPpqHgMA8rw_qMnz2R_q72R7kygU/s2048/798E7F5F-D6EB-47C5-BE0D-740776E819F7.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1602" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPqs91zBqtssAdR3FFfbYhtUNwqk40vcItJErzEI-0VusT_f7euIy7gWkRV8MO2nl4oEqlXewrGR5MTIvO0jBUYzLBhYfFW-Yd7z1-K729cgQ7AafOPpqHgMA8rw_qMnz2R_q72R7kygU/s320/798E7F5F-D6EB-47C5-BE0D-740776E819F7.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYR8gXRtDjNtD-4ZYxBaEdIerTHs0QVbUa2XlDQSOASz39BeP7d2WFH4MW5a_yJuAIpB0l2Uprk0WcV93lLRIdZQUpApo2zZxlddDPjUwiLbQrwr_SZB-6fRDMqGpuu5RvwXuddw_-iBw/s2048/B6CF5B2A-44BA-4D8B-B53B-9320CC2E1B09.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYR8gXRtDjNtD-4ZYxBaEdIerTHs0QVbUa2XlDQSOASz39BeP7d2WFH4MW5a_yJuAIpB0l2Uprk0WcV93lLRIdZQUpApo2zZxlddDPjUwiLbQrwr_SZB-6fRDMqGpuu5RvwXuddw_-iBw/s320/B6CF5B2A-44BA-4D8B-B53B-9320CC2E1B09.jpeg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The cross hatching in white on the top picture showed where I was going to cutout the walls and the smaller cross hatching show’s where I will strip of the card covering from the poly board to expose the foam layer. I wanted to have at least a couple of damaged if not totally flattened houses amongst the half dozen houses making up the village. One thing I like to see in other people’s terrain is building which when modelled in a damaged state don’t look as though some one has been round and swept most of the rubble, smashed beams and roof tiles away! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHjapRoWcqDzfsp3tDTHYL6PkrZF3bNWGBX9ZnWUASc6eAHh_SuZhDCOHCGmx9JnoBUdh6NLuKCYJ6aCr528-XZozizn7wifo02nFXSfrpeXOvHmO35XKLFQBDKG5RsVFS53utBUnzBIQ/s2048/90BB687D-2C22-4C58-B138-988D805BC66C.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1737" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHjapRoWcqDzfsp3tDTHYL6PkrZF3bNWGBX9ZnWUASc6eAHh_SuZhDCOHCGmx9JnoBUdh6NLuKCYJ6aCr528-XZozizn7wifo02nFXSfrpeXOvHmO35XKLFQBDKG5RsVFS53utBUnzBIQ/s320/90BB687D-2C22-4C58-B138-988D805BC66C.jpeg" /></a></div><p>To try and represent a realistically damaged house the first thing I do is build the whole house without any damage. To all who pass by this part of the web. After this years total fail on the blogging front I'm aiming for a vast improvement next year. I've had a rubbish couple of years. With ill health in the family. These issues have now resolved themselves. So I'm aiming to up my post rate exponentially as they say.<br />
<br />
On the blog front I'm going to broaden the scope of the blog to include more figure and modelling output rather than focusing just on terrain.<br />
<br />
All the best to you all and have a happy Christmas and a great 2017<br />

After another long hiatus I've finally got my act together to post something! The pictures above are of some factory - industrial building terrain bases for my Battle in the box project, in the background are a painted village base and a walled manor/farmhouse base. All the bases are 30mm square and the buildings are glued onto 1p coins. The factory chimneys are made from the insides of some dismantled gel pens. Next up I'll be looking at producing some forts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The top picture shows my original Battle in a Box box, sitting on top of a new one recently purchased, for the princely sum of £9.99 The new box has a double decker layout with two internal trays.</div>

Here's hoping this is the start of some more regular blogging from me, but I have said that before!!!</div>

Finished bridges in green livery, for some bits of bright blue plastic that were destined for a landfill site they haven't turned out to badly. I've left the road surfaces black for the present, once I embark on my road building program I'll probable re-paint the surfaces to match up with road surface I settle on.</div>

<br />
Always on the lookout for useful items which I can utilize for my terrain projects. I spotted two garish blue plastic bridges on a child's railway set which we where throwing out. They reminded me of pictures I had seen of bridges from the low countries in WW1 & WW2 and the size looked close to 10mm scale which I'm using for my early WW1 forces and WW2 blitz period forces.<br />
<br />
The bridge was much to wide, so I cut out the central section and re-glued the left & right parts back under the central section. I also removed the molded on hinges. The bottom picture shows a WW1 British trooper in 10mm scale to show the size.<br />
